Identify Your Pet Electronically!
Rutherford Animal Hospital is pleased to announce the availability of electronic micro-chip identification for your pet. The micro-chip is a tiny electronic device which can store information about your pet, such as where he lives and how to contact you if he becomes lost. The chip is about the size of a grain of rice and is implanted under the skin between your pet's shoulder blades. The procedure is relatively painless and is no different than giving the yearly vaccinations our pets receive. The chip permanently remains under your pet's skin so, unlike a collar tag, it cannot be lost or altered. If your pet is ever lost, the animal control officer or local shelter will use an electronic scanner to read the information encoded in the chip and be able to return him safely home. So that all lost and stray animals can be scanned to see if they carry micro-chip identification and be quickly reunited with their owners, the Rutherford Animal Hospital recently donated an electronic scanner to the Bergen County Animal Shelter and an additional scanner to our local Animal Control Officer.
The micro-chip implant procedure is quick and affordable, and we hope that as it gains popularity we can help more lost pets find their way home. Please ask one of our staff members or veterinarians about exact costs. We would be pleased to give you any information you may need, as we feel this is an exiting new technology to keep our pets safer.
