Sadie Jane Ferraro
When I first met Sadie Jane back in September of 2002, all she wanted was to feel secure. Her current owners had decided that after nine years they couldn't handle her severe separation anxiety anymore, and they were going to euthanize her. Luckily, the veterinarian that she was brought to offered to find her another home as an alternative. A few months later, after graduating college, I took her home. As soon as she walked into RAH, the staff would stop what they were doing to greet her. The smile would never leave her face as long as people were around.
Eventually, her mounting medical problems caught up with her.The separation anxiety, dental problems, lyme disease, panis, a mass removal, and other chronic problems finally took their toll and Sadie passed away on May 22, 2005 from a ruptured lung.
She will always be remembered in the hearts of all who knew her, especially mine. Sadie is survived by 4 sisters; Lacey, Samantha, Dilielah, Daphne and her brother Threez. |

Sammy Jones
On Labor Day 2006 I had to put my dog Sammy to sleep. This has been the hardest thing in my adult life. I have had Sammy since the summer of '94, we believe he was born in '93. Around 2000 he was diagnosed with diabetes. We gave him insulin shots everyday twice a day. He came up lyme positive in the year 2002 we treated him numerous times for it, not any easy disease to treat. Then he started get arthritis and we treated him for that. Well I guess Sammy decided his body had enough and he needed to rest. On Labor Day he asked us just that, so we listened to him. He has a very peaceful euthanasia thanks to Dr. Dondzil. She actually met me at the hospital on her day off after I woke her up to help Sammy with his request.
Sammy was a great dog!! People who have met him know this first hand. He was always happy to see anyone who was willing to pet him for hours. He will be greatly missed by everyone!!! I hope someday he will come back to me. I love you Sammy forever!!!

Cookie Sylvester
Sometime during my 10 year “doggie moratorium”, I decided I missed fur. The feathers provided by my 3 parrots and 2 parakeets were no longer satisfying the itch. The kids seemed healthy and the allergies and asthma were under control. Access to strays or a potential adoptee was relatively easy working at the animal hospital. So I put out all the feelers.
On May 26, 1997, TYCO Animal Control came through, I adopted “Cookie”. “Cookie” had been found abandoned at a rest stop on the Garden State Parkway, tied to a pole with a bag containing grocery brand dog food and a soiled pillow. She weighed about 45lbs, was missing patches of fur and had a misaligned jaw. The funny part was that I was looking for a King Charles spaniel. Well, she was a spaniel mix…
Over the almost 10 years that I had “Cookie”, she proved to be the most loyal, obedient and loving companion. Even after dealing with a multitude of surgical procedures (including breast cancer), as well as combating thyroid disease, IBD and severe arthritis, Cookie continued to follow me at all costs. Even if it meant climbing the stairs 100 times throughout the day.
“Cookie” was diagnosed with lung cancer about 4 months ago. We opted to keep her comfortable and not put her through any further invasive procedures. Complications from this condition ultimately contributed to her death on November 3, 2006. Her loss has created the ultimate void in our family. She is irreplaceable and will be missed forever.
